About The George Hotel - Cley
A victim of the devastating floods of 1953, home to the inaugural meeting of the Norfolk Naturalist Trust and a focal point for bird watchers for many years thanks to its 'bird bible' it sits imposingly over the salt marshes looking out toward Blakeney Harbour.
After a period of 'make do and mend' the White Horse team are busy putting things right. After transforming the ground floor, bedroom refurbishment started in February 2007.
The George has twelve bedrooms. There are three ground floor rooms in a converted stable building which represent particularly good value (especially if you can visit mid-week). The remainder are in the main building. Seven have views over the salt marshes. All are a good size but the first floor rooms are particularly spacious. All the first floor rooms have been beautifully refurbished and work on the top floor rooms begins in September. Imagine then your own private elevated hide complete with central heating and no need to move very far when in need of sustenanceâ¦.
Speaking of which, Chris Joy, who 'served his time' under Chris Hyde at the White Horse has quickly become the main stay of the George kitchen.
Every effort is made to source raw produce from within twenty miles and we work closely with suppliers, from oyster and mussel farmers to small holders with vegetables to graziers and butchers.
