In keeping with the rest of the county, North Norfolk is an area replete with grand houses, stately homes and gardens, churches and other fine historical architecture. Locations such as Holkham Hall and Houghton Hall have been celebrated for their magnificent interiors and award winning gardens, and even non-royalists will struggle not to be impressed by the grandeur of Her Majesty the Queen's family retreat in Sandringham. Near to the market town of Aylsham, the Elizabethan mansion, Blickling Hall, is built on the site of the birthplace of one of Henry VIII's wives, Ann Boleyn, mother of Queen Elizabeth I and is very popular with visitors.
