About East Winch Common
East Winch Common is a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and is a good example of heathland dominated by heather. An area to the north is a former cricket pitch that is now acid grassland. The triangular nature reserve is home to a variety of uncommon plants growing in the damp hollows. It has been common land for over two hundred years and is now grazed with sheep or cattle.
