About Wells & Walsingham Light Railway
The WWLR is the longest ten & a quarter inch narrow gauge steam railway in the world. The unique Garratt locomotives "Norfolk Hero" (built in 1986) and "Norfolk Heroine" (built in 2011) were designed specially for this line. Wells Station has a large car park and a charming restored signal box and waiting room where you can buy souvenirs. Also at the station is "Christine's - The Station Buffet" where you can be sure of a warm welcome and an excellent choice of hot or cold refreshments. This 5 star facility offers everything from a tasty breakfast, fresh salads, fresh cut sandwitches, homemade cakes and pastries to a delicious clotted cream tea.
The scenic four mile journey through the lovely countryside takes about 30 minutes in each direction. There are halts at WARHAM St. MARY and WIGHTON. With the regular timetable service you have ample time to explore WALSINGHAM with its shops, restaurants and inns as well as the famous shrine before catching the train back.Details of some of the special attractions in Walsingham can be found in the railway's timetable leaflet available at TIC's or Wells Station.
